Thrive LDN is committed to supporting the challenges faced by Asian LGBTQ+ people. As part of Pride month and through our wider partnership with Brixton Reel, the first of two ‘Too Desi Too Queer’ events took place on Friday 28th June.
Taking place as part of the Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival, the event showcased a dynamic range of recent LGBTQ+ short films from South Asia and the UK, followed by a panel debate exploring community empowerment and looking after individual wellbeing.
Here panelist Khakan Qureshi, the founder of Finding A Voice – Birmingham’s South Asian LGBT support group, introduces the event.
Laks Mann, one of the LGBT+ leads for the Mayor of London’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group, and Co-founder of Gaysians UK, talks about hosting the panel discussion and some of the issues facing South Asian LGBT+ communities.
And DJ Ritu, DJ, broadcaster and founder of Club Kali and Kuch Kuch Bollywood nights, talks about how it’s important to keep bringing individuals and communities together and working for greater equality.
We will be working with Brixton Reel to hold another ‘Too Desi Too Queer’ event later this year.
